How PROFHQ projects the order and evaluates a pick
PROFHQ uses a shared evaluation model for draft recommendations, computer selections, and pick explanations. Its score describes a decision inside the simulation. It is not a scouting grade, a scheme assessment, or a forecast of NFL production.
The five fit factors
| Factor | Weight | What it measures |
|---|---|---|
| Board value | 45% | The prospect's rank relative to this pick and the strongest remaining player. |
| Team need | 25% | The position's priority in the selected draft year's team-needs snapshot. |
| Roster balance | 15% | Whether this class has already invested in that position. |
| Positional value | 10% | The model's positional preference, including need-sensitive quarterback value. |
| Next-pick urgency | 5% | Remaining comparable options and competing needs before the next owned pick. |
A worked score
Suppose a hypothetical prospect has component scores of 80 for value, 90 for need, 100 for roster balance, 90 for positional value, and 50 for urgency. The weighted total is 36 + 22.5 + 15 + 9 + 2.5 = 85. With no further penalty, the displayed fit is 85/100, an A under the current pick-grade thresholds.
Now compare an alternative with stronger board value of 90 but need of 50, roster balance of 100, positional value of 80, and urgency of 50. Its total is 78.5, rounded to 79. This shows why fit can prefer a slightly lower-ranked prospect who solves a roster problem. It does not mean that player is more talented.
Why the score changes during a draft
A large reach beyond the model's scouting window can subtract up to 30 points. Drafting another quarterback after already selecting one adds a 35-point penalty and removes that position's need and opportunity benefits. Positions with multiple starters retain some value for a second selection, but repeated investment gradually reduces their need score.
The scouting window is the larger of eight places or 22% of the current overall pick, rounded. Comparable prospects are counted within that range beyond the selected player's board rank. Urgency is neutral when no later pick is owned. These rules make the recommendation responsive to the current board while leaving room for uncertainty.
Reading grades responsibly
Pick grades translate the rounded score into bands: A+ begins at 90, A at 82, A- at 75, and B+ at 68. The report also identifies up to two alternatives from the candidates considered at that moment. A useful review focuses on the explanation and alternatives, not only the letter. A class summary describes simulated decisions; it cannot establish real-world success or failure.
How the 2027 draft order is projected
The order uses completed regular-season wins, losses, and ties. Winning percentage is (wins + half of ties) divided by games played. Strength of schedule uses opponents' combined current records across the full regular-season schedule, counting an opponent again when the teams play twice. It is a current-record measure, not a forecast of future opponent wins.
Projected playoff teams are placed after the non-playoff group. Conference seeds are used when available; otherwise the model projects division winners and wild cards from the standings. No playoff finish is assumed. Equal-record groups rotate in later rounds. Any unresolved tie remains provisional.
Original team and current owner are different
A traded selection keeps its original team so that the correct team's record sets its position. The owner determines who uses it. For the Jets' conditional first-round asset, the earlier Dallas/Green Bay pick goes to New York and Dallas retains the later one. A standings change can therefore alter which original pick the Jets receive without a new transaction.
The 2027 simulation supports the first three rounds; compensatory selections and final playoff results are not guessed. The 2026 archive is a separate board. If the live standings provider is unavailable, the site uses its last saved or bundled snapshot. Check the displayed update time before treating an order as current.
